Intraocular lenses mainly correct the aberration “spherical aberration”. This often causes irritation in contrast or night vision in patients after cataract surgery when a standard lens (“health insurance lens”) is selected. Aspherical lenses correct this error and enable clearer vision, especially in twilight, but also ensure that a greatly reduced glare sensitivity is perceived. In addition, colour and contrast vision is much better than if vision after surgery is compared with a standard lens (“health insurance lens”).
Since there are different quality levels within the aspherical lenses to be selected, the doctor will explain the exact differences to you in the preliminary consultation. The rule is: The higher the asphericity of the lens, the better the vision after the operation with regard to relaxed vision.
If the cornea is curved to different degrees, this is called astigmatism. Since light is refracted differently due to the irregular curvature of the cornea, the incident rays of light can no longer be bundled to a focal point. Due to this aberration, a sharp image can only be obtained by wearing glasses. The toric intraocular lens allows the correction of a refractive error caused by astigmatism. This allows you to live a life independent of glasses or contact lenses after the operation, if you have a pure astigmatism.
The operation is similar to the implantation of any intraocular lens, with the addition that the axial position of the astigmatism is taken into account precisely to ensure that the lens fits perfectly. The optimal axial position is determined preoperatively based on various measured values (IOL Master) and the axis is projected onto your eye during the operation under computer control. The surgeon must then align the axis markings on the artificial lens with the markings in the operating microscope.
In the course of cataract surgery (eye surgery cataracts) is from a medical point of view, always to a UV protection lens (Aurium) to advise. In doing so, the UV filter prevents harmful, because toxic, radiation from unprotected to hit the retina and these damage sustained and irreversible. The Aurium UV protective lens offers this UV protection against short-wave, blue UV light and thus fulfills the important aspect of retinal protection after cataract surgery. In addition, the photochromic effect of this lens makes it adapt to the lighting conditions. So it sounds in strong sunlight and clarifies in low light to the maximum on. This guarantees the best possible contrast and color vision at all times, in addition to the actual protection factor.
Accommodation (switching from near to television) is the responsibility of the natural human eye lens. Presbyopia describes the slow loss of elasticity of the natural lens that progresses with increasing age. The eye is increasingly limited in its ability to accommodate.
However, this variability of lens curvature is needed above all for near vision. The increasing rigidity of the lens has the consequence that man loses his near-sightedness over time. Everyday activities, such as reading, using the mobile phone or computer work, are becoming increasingly demanding. Therefore, the hitherto normal-sighted needs reading glasses.
In patients who suffer from astigmatism, the cornea of the eye is not uniformly „spherical“ arched, but it is curved differently. A distinction is made between genetically determined „regular“ and „irregular“ astigmatisms. The latter can be caused by eye diseases such. B. corneal inflammation caused.
The deformed cornea leads to irregularities in the refractive power of the eye, which when stroking objects from points become strokes or sticks. One speaks here of the so-called „astigmatism“: images and objects seem to the viewer more or less strongly „warped“. The environment is out of focus.

The IOL-VIP, a special surgical method, is used in advanced macular degeneration. This usually affects the place of the sharpest vision (fovea / foveola) and is irreversible in advanced form. Affected persons lose central vision. In this particular operation, the natural lens is replaced by two artificial lenses. One lens is placed in front and one lens behind the iris. The incident light is thus no longer, as otherwise natural, conducted into the visual center, but redirected to a retinal site outside the macula. The EVO Visian ICL is an implantable Collamer Lens™ that works with the eye to correct vision. Unlike traditional contact lenses that go on the surface of the eye, the EVO Visian ICL is positioned inside the eye between the Iris (colored part of the eye) and the natural lens where it stays indefinitely. If your vision changes dramatically however, it can be easily removed from the eye.
An advantage of the EVO Visian ICL is that it can permanently correct your vision, yet no natural tissue is removed.
It represents a gentle alternativ to refractive laser surgery. Additionally, the Visian EVO ICL™ can correct very high refractive errors (myopia up to -18,0 dptr and hyperopia up to +10,0 dptr with or with astigmatism up to 6,0 dptr).
